You don’t have to be a celebrity to look like one!

Posted: 2012-11-20 18:00:00
I’ve always wondered what it would be like to have my own personal hairdresser and make-up artist. I wouldn’t be too greedy and have them by my side 24/7 but maybe just an hour or two each morning and I’d be happy with that! Ah but alas, reality dictates that my inner celeb needs to DIY and here are a few tips I have picked up along the way.

Glowing Skin
Apart from trying very hard to up the ante on: water water water, green leafy veg, and not too many choccie delights, I love using a facial oil at night-time to penetrate to the deeper layers of my skin and let it do all the work while I sleep.  There are a number of really good ones on the market but my favourite is USPA Regenerative Elixir, for that rehydrated, rejuvenated feel and for added sparkle in time for Christmas. For that extra glow during the day, I like to tap a little cream based highlighter to the outer corners of my cheekbones to give that healthy glow, but blend it well.

Wing it with your eyeliner
Don’t you just love Audrey Hepburn’s uber glam look with her winged eyeliner?! A gel based liner will last all day/night and is a little less harsh than the liquid. It’s not as hard as you think.  The right tools really help so I picked myself up an angled brush. Start off lining the upper lash line staying close to your lashes, then from the outer corner, imagine a curved line up to the outer corner of the brow and place a dot a little way along the imaginery curve (on both eyes!) then just join the line to the dot. That’s the perfect curve for a winged look!  Mac, Bobby Brown & Fuschia all have lovely pots which last for ages.

Cheeky cheekbones
Just look in the mirror and suck in your cheeks, girls, and sweep a bronzer brush lightly along the hollows. Smile, and place a rosy blush on the top of the cheeks and there you go all you Victoria Beckham wannabees!

Red lips aka Imelda May
Don’t be scared of the red lip. It is such a classic look, and it doesn’t have to take a long time to perfect. The reason it’s so perfect is because it instantly transforms your entire look! I spent a little time at the makeup counter with a very sympathetic assistant and once you have the right shade of red for you, try the lip stain and matching lipstick. Blot, then gloss and you’re good to go.

Luscious lashes

My favourite tool in my makeup kit has to be the eyelash curler. The best celebrity beauty tricks for long, thick & curley lashes without falsies! Heat for a few seconds with a hair dryer (be careful when applying to the lashes) hold for 10 seconds. After that, use a volumising and lengthening mascara and......voila!!
